What happens when you take the unpredictable panel layouts of George Herriman, the lush art of Walt Kelly, throw in a dash of humour, a pinch of belief, a dollop of playful childishness and a wack of universal truth?
You get Hobbes of course! Quintessential comic strip character, influential social commentator and beloved friend of Calvin. Together they have enthralled, inspired, enlightened and thrilled an entire generation, all drawn and written by one man — Bill Watterson. |
Remember the days?
Have we done enough you think?

Calvin is a bratty, precocious six-year-old who lives in his own world full of alien visitors, monters and superhero's.
Hobbes is his best friend and loyal companion, caring protector and personal confidant. Calvin's non-dinosaur-and-alien-related moments are often much more philosophical than a six-year-old generally appears, and Watterson directly acknowledges this in several anthologies and interviews. To Watterson Calvin is a tool to subtly mock the modern age in its myriad forms, to those that delight in his creative exploration of society he is so much more. |
